While modern urology offers many minimally invasive techniques like laser and endoscopic surgery, certain complex cases still require open surgery to provide the best and safest outcome. At Niranjan Hospital, Perambalur, we offer expert open urological surgeries when needed, performed with precision, safety, and personalized care.
Dr. P. Niranjanraj has extensive experience in performing open surgeries for kidney, bladder, prostate, and urethral conditions, ensuring excellent outcomes even in challenging cases.
Open surgery involves making a small incision on the body to access and treat the affected part of the urinary system. This method is used when the stone is too large, the anatomy is complex, or there are multiple issues that cannot be treated through laser or endoscopy.
Open surgeries may be recommended for:
Done where the PUJ segment is narrow causing blockage to urine flow from kidney requiring reconstructive surgery
Removal of large or impacted kidney stones through a small incision in the flank region. 3. Open Cystolithotomy
Surgical removal of large bladder stones when endoscopic methods are not effective.
Removal of the kidney in cases of cancer, severe damage, or non-functioning kidneys. 5. Open Adrenalectomy
Removal of the adrenal gland(located above the kidney) in cases of tumors
Open surgery to correct long or complex urethral strictures when endoscopic dilation fails.
Open removal of the prostate gland in certain cancer cases or when other treatments are not possible.
Orchidopexy is fixing of the testis to the inner scrotal sac in cases where there is torsion(twisting) of the testis leading to cutoff in the testicular blood supply
Varicocelectomy is the selective removal of the swollen abnormal veins supplying testis that gives rise to severe testicular pain or causes infertility issues.
Vasectomy is a permanent male contraception surgery where the vas tube is ligated & cut. Hydrocelectomy is done to remove the sac filled fluid collection formed around the testicle.
Removal of foreskin of the penis due to infection or complete occlusion of the skin causing difficulty in passing urine.
Releasing the tissue bridge(frenulum) on the under aspect of the penis that causes tight/painful erection
Done to bypass severe urethral obstruction where a new opening created between scrotum and anus so that the patient passes urine through that newly created opening
Though we always consider less invasive options first, open surgery may be necessary if:
● The stone or tumor is too large or deeply located
Dr. Niranjanraj will thoroughly evaluate your condition and suggest open surgery only when it is the safest and most effective choice.
